So I went to the store today and was amazed at the bombardment of Christmas music and marketing. It was an assault on the senses.
Barnes and Noble.. Uggh. Jingle Jingle, Carol after Carol... Uggh. And the volume turned up enough to annoy and not sooth. Apparently they want bottom line dollars and not perusers.
Yes, Perusers, you know who you are. You are the people who read a whole book without buying at Barnes and Noble. Don't get me wrong, I'm one of them. Barnes and Nobles are all over the country and sometimes on a road trip. I'll stop by one, read a chapter, grab a cup of coffee and then keep on driving on to another Barnes and Noble 100 miles away and read another chapter.
Yes, the perusers can and often do read books without buying, but they are the ones who also impulsively buy....
Especially guide books, how to books, and reference books. While fiction and most non-fiction can be read and put back on the shelf. Just like most other things, once read it goes back on the shelf.
Anyways. The XMAS hype marketing campaign is full bore and it should bore out in Q1 Earning reports.
Bah humbug. If people were this nice all year round, well... it'll be a better place.
